It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that the City of DeKalb announces the tragic passing of one of our dedicated firefighter/paramedics on Monday, April 6, 2026. This unexpected loss has left the entire community shaken, and our thoughts are with the firefighter’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
As first responders, firefighters and paramedics dedicate their lives to serving others, putting the needs of the community above their own. This loss is not only felt within the DeKalb Fire Department but also throughout the entire city, as we mourn the loss of a courageous individual who selflessly gave to others. The firefighter/paramedic’s role in the department was essential, and their commitment to the safety and well-being of our community will not be forgotten.
At this time, our priority is to support the family, friends, and colleagues who are grieving the loss of their loved one. The DeKalb Fire Department remains united in strength as we navigate this difficult time. We ask that the community respects the privacy of the family during this period of mourning as they process this heartbreaking loss.
The department has expressed its gratitude for the outpouring of support and understanding from the public. This act of solidarity is a reminder of the deep bond between the fire service and the community it serves. As funeral arrangements are still pending, the department will continue to keep the public informed.
To the family, friends, and fellow firefighters, our hearts are with you. May the memory of this brave firefighter/paramedic live on in the hearts of all who knew them. We stand with you during this time of grief, and we will honor their legacy of service and dedication.
