It is with deep sorrow that we extend our thoughts and prayers to the Cheek family following the recent passing of John Cheek, a beloved figure in the lacrosse community and a true legend of the sport. John’s contributions to lacrosse, particularly during his time as a Division II/III Attackman, have left an indelible mark on the game, and his legacy will forever be celebrated.

John Cheek’s extraordinary career spanned multiple achievements that have become part of lacrosse history. As a player, his speed and remarkable stick skills earned him the prestigious title of Division II/III Attackman of the Year in both 1976 and 1977. His outstanding performance on the field was recognized through his three All-America honors, with two of those selections being First Team honors. His skill and determination set him apart, making him one of the most formidable players of his time.

In 1978, John Cheek made history by becoming one of only two Washington College lacrosse players ever to be named a member of the U.S. National Team. This was a testament to his dedication and his unparalleled talent on the field.
